Chuck Grassley concerned about social media sites being targeted again by Russia in 2018

Sen. Charles E. Grassley stated Tuesday that he had was hoping the government would have handed some laws on social media previous to the 2018 midterm election.

“I thought that we were going to get — as far as advertisement on Facebook and Twitter and things like that — that the Federal Election Commission was going to step in with some regulations that were very important. Who was paying for it, so we could track it, and that would probably discourage [anything] Russian related from using those platforms,” Mr. Grassley, Iowa Republican, stated on Fox News.

Social media networks have turn out to be a large matter of dialog heading into the 2018 election. Intelligence officers say that the sites had been objectives for Russians looking to affect the 2016 election, and that lawmakers have now not taken sufficient steps to give protection to customers on those platforms in the impending election.

“We expect Russia to continue using propaganda, social media, false-flag personas, sympathetic spokesmen and other means to influence, to try to build on its wide range of operations and exacerbate social and political fissures in the United States,” Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats stated in a congressional listening to on Tuesday.

Democrats have blamed President Trump for now not adequately pushing the problem. Mr. Trump has proven sensitivity to the problem of Russia’s function in the election, seeing it so that you can decrease his win.
